Driver Qualification File – Driving Record Request
The Driving Record, also known as Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), is a document that is required to be in a Driver Qualification File per DOT Regulations 49 CFR 391.23(a)(1) & (b). The MVR must be requested within 30 days of hire from the state the employee has a valid driver’s license. The company then must request the MVR Annually.
Question – Do I Have to complete a Driver Qualification File on my employee?
Yes, Driver Qualification Files must be complete on any employee that;
- Drives a vehicle that has a GVWR* or GCWR* of 10,001 pounds or more
- Transports and is placarded for Hazmat
- Transports one or more passengers
*Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating (GCWR), includes the net weight of the vehicle, plus the weight of passengers, fuel, cargo and any accessories added to the vehicle after purchase. Rating is NOT what the truck is plated for licensing purposes.
